Bateau Bay House

Located in Bateau Bay on the Central Coast, this charming family home was thoughtfully reimagined to better support modern family living.

While the existing house had great bones, it lacked the functionality, flow, and warmth needed for everyday life.

The design focused on opening up the internal spaces and introducing bespoke joinery to improve storage and usability, including a highly considered mudroom to support children’s organisation.

A palette of light tones and natural timbers was used throughout to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere, complemented by layered architectural detailing and a subtle mix of metals to add depth and refinement.

A key intervention was the redesign of the main staircase, connecting the entry to the kitchen and formal dining area. Reworked to feel more open and fluid, the staircase now acts as a welcoming architectural feature that enhances circulation and draws you naturally into the heart of the home.

COLOUR PALETTE & MATERIALS

Neutral colour palette

Beach modern design.

A beach modern colour palette is grounded in soft, light-reflective neutrals that create a calm and effortless base. Warm whites, sand and stone tones are layered with pale greys and soft taupes to evoke a relaxed coastal atmosphere without feeling overtly themed. Natural timbers — from light oak to white-washed finishes — add warmth and texture, while subtle accents of muted blues, sea-glass greens, or clay tones introduce depth and a gentle connection to the coastal landscape.

To elevate the palette, refined contrasts such as soft black, brushed brass, or aged bronze are used sparingly, bringing a modern edge while maintaining a light, airy feel.
